Polish services mobilised following threats against Prime Minister Tusk
According to Cotidianul.ro, police in Poland have received operational information regarding a possible attack aimed at Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Force structures immediately launched checks and enhanced protective measures around the targeted officials.
On Sunday, at 11:00, representatives of the Internal Security Agency met with officials from the Ministry of the Interior. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Police and the State Protection Service.
The spokesman for the co-ordinating minister of special services, Jacek Dobrzyński, confirmed on the X network that specific actions had been adopted to counter any risk. A statement in the same sense came from the representative of the Ministry of the Interior, Karolina Gałecka, citing the source Wiadomosci.radiozet.pl.
Authorities in Warsaw did not disclose operational details regarding how the attack was to be carried out. Additionally, no arrest of suspects has been announced at this stage of the investigation.
The alert comes at a time of heightened tension in Poland. The country has recently experienced a series of violent incidents in the school environment, one of which resulted in the death of a school caretaker on Thursday. Authorities are treating any signal concerning public safety and the security of cabinet members with maximum caution.
Threats against Prime Minister Tusk are not without precedent. In September, law enforcement detained a 56-year-old man from Przemyśl after he posted a video clip with hostile messages against the head of government on social media. Previously, another arrest took place in Oława, where a 52-year-old individual posted death threats against Tusk on the internet. In that case, the Prime Minister personally signed the criminal complaint and request for criminal prosecution of the suspect, after the latter was unable to provide an explanation for his behaviour.
