Ten people, including pupils and teachers, were injured during an attack at a school in Ostrołęka in north-east Poland. Police arrested a 19-year-old suspect, and an improvised explosive device was found in his backpack.

According to 24sata (https://www.24sata.hr/news/horor-u-poljskoj-ucenik-u-skoli-macetom-napao-ljude-pronasli-mu-i-bombu-u-ruksaku-1159427), the incident occurred on Wednesday. According to Mazovian Voivode Mariusz Frankowski, nine people were taken to hospital, but no one's life is in danger. Among the injured were five pupils, two educators and two other people. The perpetrator himself also suffered injuries that he inflicted upon himself.

Officers confirmed that the attacker is a pupil at the same school and attacked people with a machete. Bomb disposal experts were called to the scene. District prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk informed TVN24 that the device found in the backpack was close to detonation.

Fire service spokesperson Adrian Stupski told TVP Info that pupils barricaded themselves in classrooms in self-defence before evacuation was carried out.

The motives for the attack are not yet known. Such incidents occur rarely in Poland. It is worth recalling that in September police arrested a 13-year-old suspected of planning an attack; a knife was found on him.
