Attack on 81-year-old woman in Zielona Góra – 58-year-old man arrested within hours
A man entered a pensioner's property, attacked her and stole a handbag containing 10,000 zloty. Police arrested the perpetrator the same day; he faces up to 15 years in prison.
Brutal assault and swift arrest
A man entered the property of an 81-year-old woman in Zielona Góra on Sunday, 27 September at approximately 15:00. According to policja.pl, the suspect offered to help with renovation work, but the woman clearly rejected the proposal. He was shirtless, and the pensioner noticed the smell of alcohol from him.
When the elderly woman firmly refused, the man changed tactics. He began striking the 81-year-old on the head and kicking her across her entire body. At the moment when the woman tried to call for help, the attacker became even more aggressive. Shortly before fleeing, he took her handbag containing documents, bank cards and cash totalling 10,000 zloty.
Witnesses interrupted the escalation
The screams and cries of the pensioner were heard by neighbours who appeared at the scene. This swift reaction proved crucial — by appearing at the property, they scared off the attacker, who immediately fled. Such action by the neighbours likely saved the elderly woman from further escalation of violence.
Police operation and arrest
Following the report of the crime, Zielona Góra police immediately took action. The city commander issued an alarm for the unit, meaning all available officers, including those off duty, were mobilised for the search. Police officers secured CCTV footage from the attacker's escape routes, gathered information from witnesses and established a detailed description of the perpetrator.
The operation quickly bore fruit. A police dog handler spotted the 58-year-old man and arrested him. The man admitted to assaulting the woman and stealing the handbag. His body bore marks indicating involvement in the incident. A breath alcohol test showed nearly 0.1 per cent alcohol in his exhaled air.
Legal consequences
The pensioner was taken to hospital with severe injuries, though they did not pose a threat to her life. The suspect was charged with robbery — a serious offence punishable by up to 15 years' imprisonment. At the request of the District Prosecutor's Office in Zielona Góra, the court imposed a three-month remand in custody on the man.
