During an alcoholic gathering in a flat on the Piasta housing estate in Białystok, a brutal attack occurred on the 58-year-old owner of the premises. Two men aged 36 and 32, together with their partners – a 24-year-old and a 28-year-old – abused the victim and then prevented her from leaving the flat.

It all began when the victim's 52-year-old partner invited four acquaintances round for a drinking session together. During the gathering, one of the guests struck the host several times with his fists to the head, dragged him out of the bedroom into the hallway and pulled him across the floor. The second man joined the attack – together they kicked the injured party in the head whilst he lay on the floor. The women accompanying the attackers not only watched this, but encouraged them and mocked the victim.

After the beating, the perpetrators forcibly placed the 58-year-old on a chair in the kitchen, forbade him from leaving and warned him that they would set him on fire if he informed officers. The injured party managed only to remember the appearance of the attackers, not knowing their personal details.

The next morning, a passer-by noticed a bloodied man lying beneath a kindergarten building and called the services. The victim was taken to hospital, and after two days reported to the police station to give a statement.

Officers from Police Commission II quickly established the identity of the attackers. During their detention at the victim's flat, it emerged that the older of the two men had a sentence of one and a half years' imprisonment for abuse on his record and was wanted for its execution. The injured party's partner also did not escape arrest – she was caught the day before and remanded in custody, as she had a six-month sentence to serve for destruction of another's property.

Both attackers have been charged with two counts: assault causing serious bodily harm, and influencing the victim through threats and unlawful detention, with both acts committed while on conditional release. Their girlfriends will face charges of assault with serious consequences. They face a sentence of up to ten years' imprisonment, and in the case of recidivism the court may increase it by 50 per cent.
