Former lawyer from "coffin on wheels" case Paweł K. may face new drug charges
Paweł K., convicted in a fatal accident in 2021, is under investigation in a drug inquiry by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Kraków. His wife has already been charged with possession of mephedrone and cannabis.
Convicted lawyer again at centre of investigation – this time drug-related
Paweł K., a former Łódź lawyer known from the "coffin on wheels" case, may soon face further criminal charges. As RMF FM reporter has established, the lawyer is under investigation in a drug inquiry conducted by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Kraków.
According to RMF24, charges may relate to possession of significant quantities of narcotics. So far, prosecutors have brought such charges against Paweł K.'s wife, Paulina K. These cover possession of mephedrone and cannabis jointly with another identified person. According to unofficial information obtained by journalist Krzysztof Zasada, this person is her husband.
Investigators are furthermore examining whether Paulina K. distributed narcotics using encrypted internet messaging applications. In the meantime, Paweł K. is serving a custodial sentence in a detention facility in Szczecin, where the local prosecutor's office is conducting a separate drug investigation against the couple – previously taken over from Łódź.
Paweł K. was responsible for a road accident in 2021 in which two women died. After the incident, he published a recording on the internet in which he stated: "This was a confrontation between a safe car and a coffin on wheels" – and it is precisely this phrase that has become permanently associated with this case.
In April 2023, the District Court in Olsztyn sentenced him to two years' imprisonment and a five-year driving ban. In March 2026, the Regional Court in Olsztyn reduced the sentence to one and a half years' deprivation of liberty and shortened the driving ban to four years. However, Paweł K. did not report to serve the sentence and went into hiding for some time. On 7 May of this year he was detained by police and imprisoned in the Penal Institution in Hrubieszów, from where he was subsequently transported to Szczecin.
A few days ago, the district prosecutor in Olsztyn submitted a request to the National Prosecutor's Office to consider filing a cassation appeal in the case of the accident caused by the former lawyer.
