50-year-old Renata H. died at the hands of 42-year-old Rafał M., who had previously been in a relationship with her daughter Klaudia. The man broke into the woman's house at night, and her body was found the next day in the bath filled with water.
A concerned friend reported her missing when Renata failed to appear at work at the mushroom farm. Police officers who arrived at the house heard only the dog barking. Firefighters forced open a window, and an officer who entered found the body in the bathroom. A doctor established that death had occurred several hours earlier.
An autopsy revealed multiple broken ribs, head injuries and wounds on the hands typical of defensive attempts. The cause of death was respiratory failure resulting from violent suffocation by drowning.
Rafał M. met Klaudia five years ago. At that time his marriage broke down; he had two children but was not paying maintenance. He lived with his partner and her mother, but when he began to use violence, Klaudia broke contact with him. The man repeatedly threatened her and Renata.
In January 2024, a court sentenced him to a suspended sentence for abuse and driving under the influence. In October of the same year the suspended sentence was reinstated and he was imprisoned for four months. After his release in February 2025, Rafał M. began to harass his former partner and her mother. Police intervened multiple times, and the man was sent to a psychiatric ward from which he was discharged a few days before the murder.
