The former chairman of the National Broadcasting Council has been charged with abuse of authority in connection with the "Fair Courts" campaign. The damage to PFN is estimated at least 8.4 million zlotys.

Agents of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau detained Maciej Świrski on Tuesday, who previously headed the National Broadcasting Council. Together with him, officials detained Cezary J., also a former member of the board of the Polish National Foundation. The following day both heard the charges against them.
Prosecutor Jaromir Rybczak from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów explained that investigators ascribe to them joint action in committing an offence consisting of exceeding powers and failure to perform official duties. According to the prosecution, the incident took place in 2017.
The charges focus on the preparation and payment for a promotional campaign titled "Fair Courts". According to investigators, this undertaking went beyond the objectives set out in the PFN statute. As a result of these operations, the foundation was to suffer financial losses of at least 8.4 million zlotys.
The prosecution also stated in its statement that despite applicable regulations, intangible assets with the same valuation were transferred to the benefit of the political groups Law and Justice and Solidarity Poland. They took the form of marketing services directed at the public as part of the indicated campaign.
The detainees gave statements and did not admit to committing the alleged acts. For this type of offence, the penal code provides for imprisonment of up to ten years. The court decided to apply supervision of the arrested men consisting of a ban on leaving the country and confiscation of passport documents.
Following his release, Świrski published thanks online for the support shown to him. Due to the ongoing proceedings, he refused to provide wider commentary on the actions of the prosecution authorities.
