CBA detains Maciej Świrski. Investigation concerns financing of campaign against judges
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau have detained Maciej Świrski, former president of the Polish National Foundation. The CBA operation is part of proceedings concerning the sources of financing for the "Fair Courts" campaign, which was directed against independent judges.
Świrski previously served as head of the National Council of the Judiciary. His detention provoked reactions in judicial circles. Judge Igor Tuleya, who during the PiS government's rule was one of the most harassed magistrates, commented for Onet: "The mills of justice grind slowly, and this campaign was exceptionally vile". He added that it had taken a long time to wait for this moment.
Earlier, in reaction to the morning detention, Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that mismanagement on a large scale could have occurred in the Polish National Foundation.
