Officials from the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) have arrested three people in connection with an investigation into irregularities at the Government Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS). Among those arrested are 36-year-old Paweł P., a former employee of the agency, and two former heads of the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) Foundation: 52-year-old Renata K. and 42-year-old Włodzimierz D.
The information about the arrests was released by the spokesperson for the minister coordinating special services, Jacek Dobrzyński.
The case concerns the so-called RARS scandal, which involved irregularities in the purchase of medical and protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency was responsible for gathering and distributing strategic reserves, including masks, disinfectants and ventilators.
The CBA investigation is focusing on corruption suspicions and irregularities in the public procurement process carried out by RARS. The arrest of the former heads of the BGK Foundation suggests possible links between the agency's activities and entities in the financial sector.
Details of the charges have not yet been disclosed. Those arrested will be questioned by prosecutors, who will decide on any potential charges to be brought against them and on requests for their arrest.
