Deliberate cutting of railway cables in Katowice – two men detained
Two residents of Katowice have been detained after deliberately cutting power supply cables on railway premises, which disrupted train traffic. They face up to eight years in prison.

According to wiadomosci.wp.pl, on Wednesday at approximately 6:30 the duty officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Katowice received a report of a failure in the power supply infrastructure in the Wojewódzka Street area. Patrols and detectives were dispatched to the scene.
An inspection conducted under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Katowice-South District Prosecutor's Office quickly confirmed that the power supply cables had been deliberately cut. Damage to key elements of the infrastructure caused serious disruptions to train traffic on the Katowice railway hub.
The matter was taken up by the Department for Combating Crimes Against Property at the Katowice Municipal Police Headquarters. Parallel operational and procedural action, conducted in close coordination with the prosecutor's office, brought quick results.
Officers detained the first suspect on Wednesday evening. He is a 50-year-old resident of Katowice. The second perpetrator – a 55-year-old Katowice resident – was apprehended on Thursday morning.
Both men are in police custody, where further procedural steps are ongoing. On Friday, the detainees are scheduled to be brought to the Katowice-South District Prosecutor's Office, where they will face formal charges.
For intentional damage to railway infrastructure elements and creating a threat to traffic, the Criminal Code provides for a sentence of up to eight years imprisonment.
