The body of 12-year-old Elżbieta was found on 23 May in a difficult-to-access location in Wolski Forest in Kraków, RMF24 reported. The girl had been missing since Thursday 21 May, when she did not return home after meeting with friends and stopped contacting her family.
The District Prosecutor's Office Kraków-Krowodrza has opened an investigation into an offence under Article 151 of the Penal Code, confirmed Tomasz Waszczuk, spokesman for the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Kraków. This provision states that "anyone who by persuasion or by providing assistance causes a person to attempt their own life is subject to imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years".
The Kraków Regional Prosecutor's Office stated in a communication that "at the scene of the incident, the necessary examination activities were conducted with the participation of an expert doctor from the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Kraków and traces and evidence were secured". Preliminary autopsy results ruled out the involvement of third parties in the incident.
During the course of the investigation, the girl's parents and members of the Municipal Guard who discovered the body were questioned. An expert is conducting tests on electronic equipment used by Ela. The prosecution announced that the aim of the proceedings is "to establish the circumstances of the girl's death and the reasons that led to it".
The search for Ela began on Thursday evening in the vicinity of Kraków Zoo. On Friday afternoon, additional services joined the operation – firefighters and specialist drone teams. Wolski Forest and its surroundings were searched, and operations were later expanded to cover the entire Kraków county, including abandoned buildings and vacant properties. Additional forces from across the province were deployed to the operation.
On Saturday 23 May in the morning, the body of the girl was found in a difficult-to-access area of Wolski Forest.
