Search ends in tragedy: operator found dead in Lubusz Voivodeship
Google News PL — Crime (pl) reports that the body of 56-year-old Witold Płóciennik, a respected film operator, was found on Thursday in a forest complex near Lake Krzywe in Sulęcin County (Lubusz Voivodeship).
The information was confirmed by Mariola Wojciechowska-Grześkowiak, press spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski. She noted that an investigation has been opened in the matter. As part of it, activities will be carried out with the participation of a forensic medicine expert — these are intended to determine whether death occurred from natural causes or whether third parties contributed to it.
Earlier, sergeant Martyna Litka from the District Police Headquarters in Sulęcin informed of the discovery of the body, without disclosing details. She indicated that procedural activities were being conducted at the scene, under the supervision of a prosecutor.
Disappeared over the weekend, did not arrive at the set
Płóciennik was last seen on Saturday in Lubniewice — a town on Lake Lubiąż. The operator was there on business: at the end of August, filming began in the Lubusz Voivodeship for a new crime series he was working on. Over the weekend, during a break between filming, he went to the lake. On Monday morning, he did not show up on set.
— We were supposed to have filming on Monday. The producer and production manager came to knock on my door in the morning. We were supposed to meet Witek downstairs at 7:10 and go to the set in one vehicle. They told me that Witek had disappeared, he wasn't there, he had got lost somewhere. That's when I found out — said director Maciej Pieprzyca, quoted by TVN.
Intensive search operation
From the beginning of the week, police conducted a large-scale search. Forest areas and the surroundings of reservoirs and watercourses were checked; officers were accompanied by a tracking dog. The water bodies were searched using sonar and other specialist equipment. A helicopter crew and drone operators conducting aerial observation participated in the operation.
Professional achievements
Witold Płóciennik was a respected filmmaker. As an operator, he worked on the miniseries "Leaden Children", which premiered earlier this year, and previously worked on series including "Clangor" and "Century of the Guilty".
