Body of Witold Płóciennik found in forest near Lake Krzywe near Lubniewice
The body of film operator Witold Płóciennik has been found in a forest complex near Lake Krzywe in Lubuskie Voivodeship. Police had been conducting a search since Saturday, 29 August.
Body of missing film operator found
According to Interia, the body of Witold Płóciennik was discovered in a forest complex near Lake Krzywe in the Lubniewice area in Lubuskie Voivodeship. This was confirmed by Mariola Wojciechowska-Grześkowiak, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski, in an interview with polsatnews.pl.
Earlier on Thursday, Sergeant Martyna Litka from the County Police Headquarters in Sulęcin informed that a man's body had been discovered during the search.
"We have found the body of a man, procedural activities are being conducted at the scene under the supervision of a prosecutor," the police officer said. At that time, the identity of the deceased had not yet been officially confirmed.
Search continued for several days
The 56-year-old film operator went missing on Saturday, 29 August. He was last seen in Lubniewice, in the area of Lake Lubiąż. The search operation covered a wide area – the services checked a total of approximately 1,040 hectares.
The search involved police officers, rescue and search teams, foresters from neighbouring forest districts, and residents. The area was searched from land, water, and air, using a helicopter, drones with thermal imaging, boats, sonar equipment, quad bikes, and a service dog.
Several hours before the body was found, reports emerged of a possible new lead. Fakt reported unofficially that over 20 kilometres from the location of Płóciennik's last mobile phone signal, a device that could have belonged to the missing man was said to have been spotted. Police were investigating this information.
Worked on Netflix production
Witold Płóciennik was a respected film operator. Recently he had been working in Lubuskie Voivodeship on a new Netflix production. Following his disappearance, work on the film set was suspended, and members of the film crew joined the search operation.
