Aggression towards paramedics in Nowy Targ – two police interventions in one night
According to gazetakrakowska.pl, on the night of 6 to 7 July 2026, two separate incidents involving aggressive patients occurred at the Emergency Department of the Jan Paweł II Specialist Hospital in Nowy Targ. Medical staff, instead of focusing solely on providing care, were forced to defend themselves against physical and verbal attacks.
68-year-old female patient attacked paramedic
The first intervention involved a 68-year-old woman who became furious whilst undergoing medical procedures. The patient hurled vulgar insults at the female paramedic providing her with care, and subsequently violated her bodily integrity.
A police patrol from the County Police Headquarters in Nowy Targ was immediately summoned to the scene. Officers secured traces and evidence. Official legal proceedings have been initiated against the 68-year-old regarding the commission of a crime. Since medical staff are afforded the same legal protection during their work as that provided to public officials, the woman faces a custodial sentence.
Intoxicated 34-year-old detained and penalised
At the same time on the same ward, a second incident occurred. A 34-year-old resident of the Nowy Targ municipality, who arrived at the emergency department in an intoxicated state, caused a disturbance – shouting, disrupting the doctors' work and directing criminal threats at them.
Police officers subdued the man, detained him and transported him to custody. Only after becoming completely sober did he face charges and was penalised with a substantial fine.
Police remind of legal protection for medical workers
The County Police Headquarters in Nowy Targ emphasised that aggression towards paramedics, nurses and doctors is unacceptable and will be met with an immediate response from law enforcement. The efficient provision of medical care depends directly on the safety of those providing that care.
