According to poznan.tvp.pl, a video of the intervention at the ProLegalization office, located in the building of Poznań University of Economics, was posted to the social media accounts of Przemysław Grzegorek from the KORWiN party. In the footage, men enter the rented premises and pose a series of questions to a Ukrainian woman working there.
When the woman asked what the men wanted to check, Grzegorek replied that they were interested in "what the premises look like". He added: "We know that Ukraine is currently hostile towards Poland and we want to see what it looks like at your place".
Grzegorek also asked the employee about her attitude towards Stepan Bandera, the rental fee and the purpose of the activity being conducted.
The Ukrainian woman replied: "I am a citizen of Ukraine, I am legally residing in Poland, Polish law allows me to stay here, I do everything legally and I act legally (…) I help foreigners to stay here legally".
Response from the Interior Ministry and police
The video quickly spread online. The Ministry of Interior and Administration responded to the incident. Karolina Gałecka, the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, emphasised: "We firmly stress that there is no tolerance for hate, hate speech or conduct motivated by nationality. Every human being, regardless of nationality, origin or religion, deserves respect and equal treatment".
Gałecka also informed that police were conducting intensive proceedings in the matter and remained in contact with the prosecutor's office. Following the intervention by the authorities, two people were detained.
Query to university authorities
New Left Member of European Parliament Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus directed an official query to the authorities of Poznań University of Economics concerning the lack of response from building security during the incident.
