Kraków resident defrauded Wieliczka businessman – sold counterfeit gold bars

According to malopolska.policja.gov.pl, on 27 May 2026 police officers from the Criminal Division of the County Police Command in Wieliczka arrested red-handed a 22-year-old resident of Kraków on suspicion of fraud.

The arrest followed a report from a Wieliczka businessman who informed police of his suspicions that a crime had been committed against him. During the investigation, it was established that the man acted three times – on 15, 22, and 27 May 2026 – misleading the victim about the authenticity of the goods offered. The bars he sold, presented as gold, turned out to be made of base metal alloy.

The suspect was charged with three counts of fraud under Article 286 § 1 of the Penal Code. The prosecutor of the District Prosecutor's Office in Wieliczka applied liberty-based preventive measures against the suspect.

Police do not rule out that the perpetrator may have committed similar acts against other persons. Potential victims are asked to contact:
