Cold case from a quarter-century ago: arrest of suspect in rape and robbery in Częstochowa

According to Google News PL, police officers from Częstochowa, in cooperation with the X Files unit from Katowice, arrested a man suspected of rape and robbery committed over 24 years ago. Investigators presented him with charges, and the court applied pre-trial detention.

DNA testing played a key role in solving the case. It was the analysis of genetic material that led officers to the suspect after more than two decades from the commission of the crime — according to sources cited by TVN24 and the Silesian Police.

The case remained unsolved for years. Its investigation was taken up by the X Files — a special unit of the Katowice police dealing with so-called cold cases, that is crimes that were not detected immediately after their commission.

The arrest was described as a breakthrough by local media and services. The Silesian Police confirmed that pre-trial detention was applied to the suspect after formal charges were presented to him concerning rape and robbery.
