A diocesan "Clarification and Remedy" commission has handed investigators documents concerning alleged irregularities in the transfer of a flat belonging to Caritas to retired Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak.

In Sosnowiec, a prosecutor's investigation is underway regarding a flat at ul. Mariacka 6, which came into the hands of a former diocesan ordinary. A church audit commission found documents suggesting irregularities in the transfer of the property.
Grzegorz Kaszak submitted his resignation on 24 October 2023. Shortly before leaving office, 180,000 zloty was transferred from a diocesan account to a charitable fund – officially for the renovation of the flat in Mariacka. On the day of his resignation, the hierarcharch reportedly gave consent for free use of the 70-square-metre flat for life. A few days later, when the diocese was already being led by a temporary administrator, a notarial deed was drawn up.
The statutory provisions of the charitable organisation prohibit the transfer of property to persons connected with its structures on more favourable terms than those for external entities. According to journalistic reports, in finalising the transaction, an economic opinion from the council was not obtained, nor was there consent from the curia.
The current ordinary Artur Ważny was informed of the findings by internal diocesan bodies. Information was also passed to the Holy See. The person concerned himself and the former head of Caritas dispute the allegations.
A curia spokesman assured that the proceedings are intended to provide a thorough clarification of all circumstances in the interest of the faith community.
