Police arrested 47-year-old Katarzyna G., mother of the man accused of murdering Mai K. The woman allegedly barricaded herself in her flat and assaulted an officer.
Mother of murder suspect arrested following house search
On Tuesday evening, police arrested 47-year-old Katarzyna G. in Mława – the mother of Bartosz G., accused of murdering 16-year-old Mai K. According to wiadomosci.wp.pl, the woman allegedly actively resisted during her arrest and attacked one of the officers.
The Masovian Police Headquarters in Radom reported that the house search was conducted on the orders of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Płock. Data storage devices, including mobile phones, and documents were seized. "At the scene, officers arrested a 47-year-old woman, who was placed in detention facilities," the Masovian police wrote on the X platform, initially without disclosing the identity of the arrested woman or the reasons for the decision.
Bartosz Maliszewski, spokesman for the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Płock, confirmed to the PAP news agency that the arrested woman was the mother of Bartosz G. He noted, however, that the arrest itself was not directly related to the house search and did not occur on the prosecutor's orders. "It is a circumstance, one could say, peripheral," Maliszewski said, reserving the right not to reveal further details due to the interests of the ongoing proceedings.
The prosecutor's office is conducting an investigation into incitement to murder, in connection with which a decision to search was issued.
Unofficially, the newspaper Fakt established that Katarzyna G. allegedly barricaded herself in the flat. "Six patrol cars and an ambulance arrived for her. They pulled her out in pyjamas," the newspaper reported, citing someone familiar with the details of the arrest.
The arrest took place a day after the father of murdered Mai K., along with his authorised representatives, announced that he disagreed with the discontinuation of the investigation into criminal threats that the mother of Bartosz G. had allegedly directed at him. The family requested assistance from the Ministry of Justice.
Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek assured in a Monday post on the X platform that the ministry treats the matter seriously. He emphasised that the Ministry of Justice and the National Prosecutor's Office "will certainly make every effort to help where the regulations allow it".
The case concerns a crime from 2025: in April, 16-year-old Maja K. went missing in Mława. Several days later, her body was found. Police arrested Bartosz G. in Greece, where he was on a school trip. In December of that year, he was extradited to Poland. Trial proceedings in this case are to begin shortly.
