Mother accused of abusing one-year-old son in Luban
The prosecutor's office has filed an indictment against a 37-year-old woman from Luban in Lower Silesia. The woman allegedly abused her one-year-old son, recording the violence and sending videos to her former partner.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra has filed an indictment with the District Court in Luban against a 37-year-old resident of Luban in Lower Silesia. According to information provided by the prosecutor's office, the woman is accused of abusing her one-year-old son with particular cruelty.
According to investigative findings and information conveyed by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, the accused allegedly suffocated the child with a pillow, pulled the child by the hair and clothing, grabbed and lifted the child by the arms. The last of the described incidents allegedly occurred before 22 November 2025. However, investigators were unable to establish the exact full period during which the violence took place.
Mobile phone recordings constitute a key element of the case. The accused allegedly recorded her behaviour towards her son and sent videos to the father of the child, with whom she had previously been in a relationship. Investigators believe the action was intended to exert pressure on her former partner and persuade him to return home. It was the father who reported the matter to the police.
Following police intervention, the woman was detained and has been in custody since 23 November 2025. During proceedings, she partially admitted to the alleged act, whilst maintaining that in one of the recordings she was merely pretending to suffocate her son with a pillow. She explained that her actions stemmed from a desire to harm her former partner.
Before the investigation concluded, a matter concerning the mental state of the accused emerged. She underwent psychiatric observation. Experts found that she had disorders of consciousness, but established that she is not mentally ill and does not have intellectual disability.
The alleged abuse of a child with particular cruelty carries a sentence of between one and ten years' imprisonment. The court will decide on the woman's guilt and any possible sentence. Until the proceedings reach a final conclusion, the woman benefits from the presumption of innocence.
