School safety

The Polish Police have been conducting operations since Saturday morning aimed at ensuring safety in educational facilities. According to the portalsamorzadowy.pl website, by 6 a.m., 231 incidents had been recorded in which officers were carrying out actions in connection with suspected criminal offences.

Nearly 50,000 schools and kindergartens across Poland have been inspected so far. A total of 76 people have been arrested. The operation is supported by municipal police and the police force, which monitor the internet around the clock and respond to every report.

Incidents in Mazovia

The police operation was launched following two attacks at schools in Mazovia. On Thursday, a 15-year-old attacked three people at a primary school in Leszczydole-Nowiny, including a school employee, who died. A day earlier, a 19-year-old attacked nine people with a knife at Vocational School No. 4 in Ostrołęka — including five students and two teachers. He also had homemade explosive material on him.

The police also prevented a probable attack at a school in Sierpc. A 17-year-old who had threatened to carry out an attack was arrested, received charges, and was remanded in custody for two months.
