Officers from Chorzów police station II arrested a 49-year-old man who was wanted by red notice issued by Swedish authorities. He is accused of committing murder at the end of June of this year in Scandinavia.

During the last weekend, officers received information that the suspect might be in the Chorzów area. Operational activities led to his apprehension in the city. The man was then brought before a court.

The judge decided to place the detainee in temporary custody for two months. During this period, Polish services will coordinate the transfer of the perpetrator to Swedish law enforcement authorities. After completing international procedures, the 49-year-old will go to the Kingdom of Sweden.

A red notice issued under the auspices of the European Union is an instrument allowing for the detention of a person fleeing justice on the territory of another member state. It enables extradition to the country conducting the investigation or enforcing the sentence. It is a key element of police cooperation between member states in combating the most serious crimes.

Thanks to international cooperation and rapid data flow between services, persons responsible for serious crimes cannot escape punishment by crossing a border.
