Police officers detained a man on Sunday afternoon in Lower Silesia. According to polskieradio24.pl, a Polish citizen aged around 60 made threats against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Activities are underway at his residence, which is being searched.
Information about a possible attack was received on Sunday morning by the State Protection Service in an email message. The message was immediately passed on to the police. Head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński confirmed that the man was detained in his own residence. Police spokeswoman Karolina Gałecka noted that details concerning the identity of the detainee are not being disclosed for the time being.
The services regarded the threats as credible and assessed the probability of their being carried out as high. In view of the seriousness of the situation, a meeting was convened with representatives of the police, the State Protection Service and the Internal Security Agency. Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Jacek Dobrzyński emphasised that the institutions treated the information about a possible attack "deadly seriously".
Kierwiński noted that the services are investigating the detainee's contacts, his internet activity and will make further decisions based on the information gathered. Both Donald Tusk and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz thanked the officers for their swift response.
Dobrzyński observed that the number of threats directed at state institutions is growing. In this case, the threat concerned the safety of the most important people in the state. The decision to inform the public was dictated by the seriousness and credibility of the information received. Proceedings in the case of the man are ongoing.
