While detaining a man convicted of theft, officers from the Starogard Gdański police headquarters detected a characteristic smell in the premises. It turned out that the wanted man was in possession of a bag containing marijuana.

A patrol from the Starogard Gdański unit went to a residential premises where a young man wanted by the judicial authorities was staying. The court had issued an order to bring him into custody to serve a four-month sentence for previous thefts.
The officers arrived at the indicated address before ten o'clock. Inside they found a person whose features matched the wanted man. After verifying identity in police databases, they confirmed they were dealing with the right individual.
While present in the premises, the uniformed officers smelled an intense odour of dried cannabis. When questioned about banned substances, the 29-year-old himself showed them a string bag containing plant material, which was lying in another room. A drug test carried out gave a positive result – the secured material was marijuana.
The wanted man was detained and the same day placed in a correctional facility. He may now additionally face charges for possession of intoxicating substances.
