Proceedings were concluded at express speed in the case of a young man from across the eastern border who drove a vehicle under the influence of alcohol over the past weekend and did not submit to inspection.
The incident occurred at night from Saturday to Sunday in the Piekoszów municipality. Police officers from Chęciny received information about dangerous driving behaviour from one of the car parks. When the officers arrived at the scene, they noticed an Audi, and instead of stopping, the driver fled.
Despite flashing lights and sirens being activated, the man continued driving. Only after several kilometres of pursuit were they able to stop him.
It turned out that behind the wheel was a 19-year-old Ukrainian citizen. An alcohol test showed he had nearly 2 per mille in his blood. What is more, the man had no driving licence whatsoever.
The case went before the court on Monday. The judge found him guilty of both charges – driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to stop for inspection. The sentence includes a fine of 5,000 zloty, a three-year driving ban, payment of 5,000 zloty to a fund supporting victims of crime, and the same amount to the state. The defendant must also cover the costs of the proceedings.
