During the night from Saturday to Sunday in Barwice in Szczecinek County, a dangerous road incident occurred. A teenager at the wheel of a car lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into the wall of a multi-family building at Plac Wolności.

The residents were awakened by a loud crash. As it turned out, the Skoda was being driven by a 19-year-old who was under the influence of alcohol. Testing revealed alcohol levels exceeding 1.5 per mille. The car damaged the building's façade at a height several centimetres below a ground floor balcony.

All emergency services appeared at the scene – police, firefighters and a medical rescue team. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Officers revoked the young man's driving licence and prevented him from continuing his journey. The case will be referred to court.

For driving under the influence of alcohol at levels exceeding 1.5 per mille, the criminal code provides severe consequences – up to three years imprisonment, a substantial fine, and in extreme cases vehicle confiscation as well.

The authorities remind that criminal penalties are only the tip of the iceberg compared to the risk of causing death or disability to oneself or other road users.
