A resident of Iława began receiving payment demands for electronic equipment he had never purchased. The perpetrator turned out to be an acquaintance who found his identity card and concluded contracts under false pretences using his details.

According to radioolsztyn.pl, a resident of Iława began receiving payment demands for electronic equipment he had never purchased. Police investigation revealed that someone had used data from his identity card to conclude contracts in his name.
Staff Aspirant Joanna Kwiatkowska from Iława police explained that the victim's identity card was found by his acquaintance. Instead of returning the document to its owner, the man decided to exploit the data contained in it. As an employee of a sales outlet of one of the mobile operators, he concluded contracts using the victim's details and in this way obtained possession of electronic equipment — a tablet, laptop and television. The total value of the obtained property was close to 30,000 zloty.
The man was charged with eight offences. He pleaded guilty. The prosecutor imposed police supervision on the 27-year-old — he must report regularly to police, and he is also subject to a ban on leaving the country and a ban on possessing a passport.
Fraud carries a penalty of up to eight years' imprisonment.
