Drunk repeat offender flees police in forest. Court: one year and four months in prison
A 36-year-old with more than 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his system and four court-issued driving bans attempted to hide from uniformed officers in a forest near Poznań. He was detained thanks to the swift reaction of a witness. The court issued its verdict in accelerated proceedings.

Officers from the Luboń police station detained a 36-year-old man who, despite four previous court orders banning him from driving, got behind the wheel again after consuming alcohol. The man had over one and a half per mille of alcohol in his blood. The entire case reached its conclusion in court, which examined it in accelerated proceedings.
The incident took place on 5 July at around 18:30 on the road connecting Sasinowo with Wiórko. One of the drivers noticed that the Volkswagen ahead of him was moving in an uncontrolled manner, weaving across the road. Fearing an accident, the witness overtook the irresponsible driver and tried to block his path. However, the intoxicated 36-year-old had no intention of stopping for a check — he turned onto a forest road and continued his escape.
Upon receiving the report, a patrol from Luboń immediately headed to the indicated area. Shortly afterwards, officers found the sought-after vehicle parked on one of the side roads in the forest. Initially the vehicle appeared to be abandoned, but upon closer inspection, police officers spotted a man attempting to remain unnoticed on the back seat.
An alcohol breath test confirmed that the driver was intoxicated. During interrogation, he explained that after a row with his life partner, he decided to calm down by driving. However, a database search revealed that the man already had four court orders against him banning him from driving any motorised vehicles.
The investigation conducted by detectives from Mosiniec resulted in two charges being brought: driving under the influence of alcohol and contempt of a court driving ban. Given the persistent violation of regulations, the prosecution requested that the case be examined in accelerated proceedings.
The court granted the request and sentenced the defendant to imprisonment for sixteen months. Additionally, a lifelong driving ban was imposed, along with an obligation to pay 15,000 Polish złoty to a fund supporting victims of crime and a payment to the State Treasury.
