Polish Olympic Committee sold images of Polish Olympians to cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto

The Polish Olympic Committee made available images of Olympians and users' data to a cryptocurrency exchange, which subsequently collapsed. In the background, the arrest of Polish Olympic Committee president Radosław Piesiewicz.

Polish Olympic Committee handed over data of Olympians and internet users to failed cryptocurrency exchange

According to Google News PL, the Polish Olympic Committee made available images of Polish Olympians and personal data of internet users to cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto — a platform that subsequently ceased operations through insolvency.

The matter concerns contracts concluded by the Polish Olympic Committee with the cryptocurrency exchange, under which images of athletes were used for commercial purposes. User data collected in connection with these activities was transferred to an entity that did not survive on the market.

Against the backdrop of the scandal is the figure of Radosław Piesiewicz, president of the Polish Olympic Committee, who has been arrested. Former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski has spoken publicly about Piesiewicz and his connections to Zondacrypto. Despite being held in provisional detention, Piesiewicz formally may still hold the position of president of the organisation.

The International Olympic Committee has sent a letter to members of the Polish Olympic Committee, in which — according to reports — the so-called nuclear option is being considered against the Polish federation. The details of the document have not been fully disclosed.

The Sport.pl portal reports on a new document in the Piesiewicz case, which according to commentators may determine his future in the position of head of the Polish Olympic Committee. Przegląd Sportowy and Interia Wydarzenia confirm that the matter is gaining momentum and could result in serious institutional consequences for Polish Olympic sport.
