Arrest following marketplace fire on Bohaterów Warszawy Street in Koszalin

According to police.pl, a 38-year-old resident of Koszalin County was detained and remanded in custody in connection with setting fire to a municipal marketplace on Bohaterów Warszawy Street in Koszalin. The District Court in Koszalin, accepting the prosecutor's request, ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for a period of three months.

The fire occurred in the previous week during night hours on the premises of the Commodity and Vegetable Exchange. The flames engulfed part of the marketplace, causing material losses estimated at over 3 million zloty.

Emergency services appeared at the scene immediately. Nine units of the State Fire Service took part in the firefighting operation and managed to bring the fire under control and prevent its further spread.

At the same time, officers from the Patrol and Intervention Unit of Police Headquarters II in Koszalin began establishing the circumstances and identifying the person responsible for the arson. Crucial importance was played by analysis of recordings from surveillance cameras covering the marketplace area — the recordings captured a man whose behaviour indicated a connection to the incident.

Police officers established the suspect's identity and detained him shortly after the incident. The evidence gathered made it possible to charge him formally with arson.
