A Polish citizen was detained in Bosnia and Herzegovina following acts of vandalism at the pilgrimage site of Medjugorje. He sprayed black paint on statues of the Virgin Mary and set fire to a field altar.
Vandalism in Medjugorje: Pole arrested after desecrating pilgrimage site
According to onet.pl, a Polish citizen was arrested in connection with acts of vandalism at Medjugorje — one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the night of 27 to 28 July, the man sprayed black paint on statues of the Virgin Mary at Apparition Hill — Podbrdo — and near the Blue Cross. He placed the inscription "Devil in a skirt" near one of the statues. He also set fire to a field altar behind the parish church of St James.
The perpetrator was apprehended in the village of Černo near Ljubuski. According to Bosnian newspaper "Dnevni avaz", before committing the acts of vandalism the man had been staying in Medjugorje as a pilgrim.
