Officers from a Warsaw operational unit conducted extensive action against an organised criminal group. These individuals were suspected of vehicle thefts and theft of car equipment parts carried out both in Poland and beyond its western border.
In the first phase of the operation conducted across the Mazovian, Lublin and Pomeranian voivodeships, officers arrested twelve people. All were questioned at the prosecutor's office, where they were presented with charges relating to burglary with intent to steal, theft, and dealing in stolen goods. The court in the capital decided to place seven of those arrested in detention for a period of three months. The remaining individuals were placed under police supervision.
During searches and operational activities, officers succeeded in recovering significant material assets from the criminals. Among the secured items was a Toyota vehicle worth 110,000 złoty, substantial amounts of cash in various currencies – 87,000 złoty, six thousand euros and six thousand pounds sterling. Additionally, an expensive watch and a jewellery collection were confiscated.
Shortly after the first series of arrests, investigators identified further participants in the criminal scheme. This time, these were individuals already imprisoned or in detention who were also suspected of taking part in criminal activities. Gathered evidence made it possible to bring charges against them for burglary and vehicle theft as well as dealing in goods derived from them. The court decided to remand six further suspects in custody for three months, which was intended to prevent them from making contact with their associates.
Summarising the entire operation, in total twenty-one people were presented with one hundred and twelve charges relating to vehicle-related crime. The years-long investigation, which was conducted by officers from the capital in cooperation with prosecutorial authorities, concluded in complete success – the entire structure of the group was dismantled.
Many officers from various units were involved in the operation. The main role was played by police officers from the Warsaw division combating vehicle crime, supported by colleagues from headquarters, district and county units, the regional police headquarters in Gdańsk, the Central Counter-Terrorism Unit "BOA" and border guards from the Nadbużański Unit. All activities were conducted under the supervision of a special department of the prosecutor's office in Warsaw dealing with combating organised crime and corruption.
