Poznań "X-Files" detectives and prosecutors have detained a 44-year-old man suspected of killing his own grandmother in Piła 18 years ago. Modern genetic testing confirmed his guilt.

Policja.pl reports that Poznań detectives from the "X-Files" team have solved a crime that occurred in June 2008. The victim was a 73-year-old resident of Piła, murdered in her flat on Bydgoska Street. The case was reopened in late 2023 and resolved using modern genetic testing methods.
When the senior's daughter could not reach her, she asked a neighbour to check the flat. The body lay on an armchair with the head wrapped in towels — the mouth was gagged with a sock, the face sealed with tape. The autopsy revealed extensive skull and brain injuries indicating multiple blows from a blunt instrument, probably a hammer.
The original investigation had secured numerous biological traces, but failed to identify a suspect. The proceedings were discontinued due to failure to identify the perpetrator. For nearly a decade and a half the case remained unsolved.
In 2024, the "X-Files" team together with the provincial prosecutor's office reanalysed the entire archive. Using highly sensitive genetic methods, they examined, among other things, fragments of adhesive tape used to bind the victim. The DNA profile definitively indicated the 73-year-old's grandson, then 26-year-old Damian B., now 44, with multiple criminal convictions.
The suspect was detained and brought to the District Prosecutor's Office in Poznań, where he was charged with murder contrary to article 148 § 1 of the penal code. During questioning he denied guilt. The District Court imposed a temporary arrest on him. Murder carries a sentence of life imprisonment.
