A 33-year-old resident of Kraśnik Górny has been charged with attempted murder after shooting a policeman in the head. The injured officer faces the threat of losing his life.

According to wiadomosci.gazeta.pl, Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra, announced on Friday 25 September that investigators had brought charges of attempted murder and assault on a police officer performing official duties against a 33-year-old resident of Kraśnik Górny. The man is also suspected of illegally possessing a firearm.
"He admitted to the crimes he is accused of. He provided a statement," Prosecutor Węglarowicz-Makowska said. The suspect faces a sentence of between 15 years' imprisonment and life imprisonment.
The condition of the 29-year-old policeman shot in the head is very serious. The District Prosecutor in Bolesławiec submitted a motion to the local court for a three-month remand in custody to be applied to the suspect.
The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 11:00 on the property of a residence in Kraśnik Górny in Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec were conducting proceedings against a person suspected of theft.
"The perpetrator, acting with the direct intent to deprive one of the police officers of life, fired a shot from a firearm in the form of a self-loading Browning HP pistol, calibre 9 mm, in his direction," investigators reported.
According to the prosecutor's findings, the suspect had previously been convicted multiple times by courts in Germany. In 2024, his case was heard by the court in Bautzen – then in connection with a crime involving the illegal import or export of firearms, their parts and ammunition.
