Police officer shot in Kraśnik Górny dies, 33-year-old suspect arrested

Sergeant Natan Sieroń, a 29-year-old officer with the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec, died on 25 September from a gunshot wound to the head, which occurred the previous day during an operation in Kraśnik Górny in Lower Silesia. According to tvn24.pl, a 33-year-old resident of the town was detained in connection with the shooting, who – according to investigators – admitted to the charges against him.
Routine operation that ended in tragedy
The incident occurred on 24 September 2026 at around 11:00 at a property in Kraśnik Górny in Bolesławiec district. Police officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec arrived after receiving a report that items from a burglary might be located on the property – according to statements from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra.
Upon arrival, officers proceeded with investigative actions involving people present at the site. During the operation, the 33-year-old resident of Kraśnik Górny returned to the property. It was then that the shooting occurred.
According to the prosecutor, the 33-year-old, acting with the direct intention of taking the police officer's life, fired a shot from a Browning HP semi-automatic pistol, calibre 9 mm. The head wound caused injuries posing a real threat to the officer's life. The first prosecutor's statement from 24 September indicated two shots fired at the officer; a later statement no. 72/2026 from 25 September describes the act subject to the charge of attempted murder as a single shot fired. The Prosecutor's Office did not publicly clarify this discrepancy – without a new official statement, detailed circumstances of the shooting beyond information officially provided by investigators cannot be presumed.
After the shot, the suspect attempted to flee, but was apprehended during the chase. Sergeant Sieroń, seriously wounded, was taken to hospital.
Death of officer and condolences from Police Headquarters
On 25 September, the prosecutor's office reported that the condition of the 29-year-old officer was very serious. That same evening, police announced his death.
Sergeant Natan Sieroń worked in the criminal investigation department of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. He had served in the force for under two years. The National Police Headquarters, conveying the news of his death, offered condolences to his family, loved ones, and the officers who served with him, emphasising that the officer died whilst carrying out his official duties.
Charges and arrest – previous convictions in Germany
The District Prosecutor's Office in Bolesławiec initiated an investigation and presented charges against the 33-year-old even before the officer's death: attempted murder, assault against a police officer whilst performing his duties, and illegal possession of a firearm. At the time the initial charges were presented, the suspect faced a sentence of between 15 years' imprisonment and life imprisonment.
The District Prosecutor in Bolesławiec submitted to the court a request for the application of three months' pre-trial detention against the 33-year-old. The Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the suspect admitted to the charges against him and provided explanations; the detailed contents were not disclosed.
The death of the victim may be significant for further legal classification of the act. Its final form is determined by the prosecutor's office on the basis of collected evidence; without a new official statement, it is not known what specific charges will ultimately be brought against the suspect.
The Prosecutor's Office further revealed that the 33-year-old had been convicted multiple times in German courts – including for crimes involving firearms. According to the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Jelenia Góra, in 2024 the man was sentenced by a court in Bautzen for a crime involving the illegal export or import of firearms, their parts and components, and ammunition. In the Kraśnik Górny case, investigators identified specifically a Browning HP semi-automatic pistol, calibre 9 mm, as the weapon used during the attack.
The investigation is being conducted by the District Prosecutor's Office in Bolesławiec. Immediately after the shooting, the prosecutor, together with police officers, conducted an inspection of the scene and secured evidence. Investigators did not disclose details of all the gathered evidence material.
