Arrest of 16-year-old in Szczytno over threatening school video
Police in the Polish city of Szczytno arrested a 16-year-old resident of the city on Friday morning (9/10) who had distributed a video online threatening an attack on a school against pupils and teachers, according to In.gr.
A spokesperson for the local police told the Polish Press Agency that the minor had been arrested and was being questioned. He reportedly claimed that he had posted the video "as a joke".
On Thursday (8/10), the local newspaper "Tygodnik Szczytno" had reported that a video had appeared online showing a masked man planning an attack on a school in the city. Concerned parents immediately notified the authorities.
"Officers immediately began investigating the identity of the person responsible for filming the video," police said in a statement. The investigation led to the identification and arrest of the 16-year-old, whose threats were reportedly directed at a secondary school in the city.
The arrest comes amid heightened concern about violence in Polish schools. The day before, a 15-year-old killed a supervisor at his former school and injured two other adults. Just a day earlier, a 19-year-old injured ten people — including himself — in an attack at another school in the country.
