Drugs from Spain hidden in barrels and false floor – drug network dismantled in Subcarpathian region

According to gov.pl, in mid-February 2025 officers from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Rzeszów, the Customs and Tax Service from the Subcarpathian Customs and Tax Office in Przemyśl, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBŚP) and the District Police Headquarters in Łańcut carried out a search of a property belonging to a 27-year-old resident of Łańcut district. During the operation, over 60 kilograms of marijuana, cocaine and hashish with a total black-market value of 3.2 million zloty were seized.

The drugs were hidden in various locations – including barrels buried in the ground and in a false floor in the attic. Their discovery was aided by ground-penetrating radar used by CBŚP officers, X-ray devices and a service dog from the Customs and Tax Service.

Investigation since 2024

The case dates back to 2024, when police established that an organised criminal group operating in the Jarosław and Łańcut districts was importing drugs from Spain. As a result of initial operations, a 44-year-old resident of Jarosław district was detained and nearly 14 kilograms of marijuana and approximately 0.5 kilograms of hashish were seized.

Supervision of the proceedings was taken over by the District Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów, which established cooperation with Spanish law enforcement authorities.

In the following months, the investigation yielded further results. In April 2025, additional individuals were detained and 20 kilograms of prohibited substances were seized. In October 2025, a further 18 kilograms of marijuana and over 450,000 zloty in various currencies were seized.

Charges against 9 people

The 44-year-old from Jarosław district and the 27-year-old from Łańcut district were charged with heading an organised criminal group engaged in intra-community acquisition and distribution of significant quantities of psychoactive substances for the purpose of obtaining financial benefit.

The remaining seven detained individuals – four women and three men – are suspected of participation in the scheme, money laundering and obstructing proceedings.

Firearms and unmarked cigarettes

During the search, officers also discovered items resembling firearms and automatic weapons, 500 rounds of ammunition and over 16,000 cigarettes without Polish excise marks. The total value of seized property exceeded 500,000 zloty.

The operations were conducted under the supervision of a prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów.
