Two police officers were hospitalised on Friday evening after their patrol car left an embankment and landed on railway tracks during a chase after a motocross rider, according to Interia.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. A patrol spotted a young man riding a motocross bike on one wheel. When the officers attempted to stop and identify him, the rider refused to stop and began to flee.
At the intersection of Węgrzynowicka and Spławy streets, the patrol car went around a bend, left the embankment and landed on the railway tracks. The officer driving the vehicle was transported by air ambulance from the Air Rescue Service to hospital in serious condition. The police officer who was a passenger was also hospitalised — according to preliminary information, she sustained bruises.
After the patrol car accident, the motocross rider abandoned his bike and continued fleeing on foot. He was apprehended by another patrol, according to a spokeswoman for Kraków police.
Witnesses questioned at the scene testified that the man had already been riding recklessly around the area on previous occasions, causing fear among residents. "This was not just today's incident, it has been going on for some time," said a spokeswoman for the Kraków Municipal Police Headquarters.
Proceedings with the detained man are scheduled for Saturday.
