Interior Minister Tomasz Kierwiński announced on Monday that officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation Police and the National Revenue Administration had blocked the smuggling of almost one tonne of heroin. The seizure itself took place several weeks ago, but details could only be disclosed now due to the ongoing proceedings.

According to estimates by the finance ministry, headed by Andrzej Domański, the contraband is worth approximately 220 million złoty on the illegal market. Domański described the operation as one of the largest of its kind not only in our country but also across Europe.

The chief commander of police, General Marek Boroń, informed that the narcotic substances reached Poland from Iran. He noted that to date, it had not been possible to seize such an enormous quantity of this drug.

In the period from January to May of the current year, the services seized over 83 tonnes of psychoactive substances. This is four times more than in the entire year 2022, when 19 tonnes were secured. In 2025 alone, it was 56 tonnes. Over the last five months, 49 laboratories and 4 cannabis plantations were also dismantled.

Kierwiński stated that as part of the fight against drug-related crime, nearly 1,200 people were arrested. Among them, 83 individuals were charged with directing an organised criminal group.
