A clergyman from a parish in the Podlaskie region, to which the family from the Suwałki area belonged, stated that he had not noticed anything concerning in the situation of the children from that household. According to investigators' findings, the siblings may have been kept in isolation for at least a dozen years.
In conversation with journalists, the priest stated that "nothing unusual was happening" with the children. The clergyman admitted that he had not taken detailed interest in the conditions in which this family lived.
The case came to light recently. Officers discovered that several siblings had been without contact with the outside world for an extended period. Investigators are now establishing the exact circumstances and scope of the isolation.
