Burgled gang smashed on Silesia: five people detained, losses reach 45,000 zloty
Police have dismantled a gang of serial burglars operating in Siewierz and Wojkowice Kościelne. Five people have been detained — citizens of several European countries.
Burglary gang smashed in Silesian voivodeship
According to RMF24, at the turn of July and August, a series of burglaries took place at detached houses in Siewierz and Wojkowice Kościelne in Silesian voivodeship. The perpetrators acted during the owners' absence, having previously carried out — as police suspect — surveillance of the targeted properties.
In one of the burglaries in Siewierz, the criminals forced open the lock on the front door and stole more than 20,000 zloty in cash and gold jewellery worth approximately 10,000 zloty. In Wojkowice Kościelne, money and gold and silver jewellery were stolen — total losses in that town were estimated at approximately 15,000 zloty.
Police detained five people in Gliwice county: a woman and four men, citizens of several European countries. Charges were ultimately brought against two of them.
Searches played a key role in the case, during which officers secured cash, jewellery, mobile phones, computers and tools that could be used for burglary. Investigators emphasise that the burglars rapidly disposed of part of the stolen property.
Police are now checking whether the dismantled group could have operated in other towns in Silesia. Officers are appealing to people who suspect they were victims of similar crimes to contact the nearest police station.
