The Warsaw Court of Appeal on Wednesday partially quashed the guilty verdict against Jan S., known as the "king of legal highs". In respect of the challenged rulings, the case has been referred back for reconsideration by the lower court.
The defendant was previously convicted of running an organised criminal group engaged in the sale of psychoactive substances. According to investigative findings, this activity endangered the lives and health of over sixteen thousand people. Among them, five people died.
The appellate court's decision means that at least some elements of the previous ruling require reconsideration. Details of the quashed rulings and the scope of the case referred back for reconsideration were not fully disclosed in the original statement.
The case of Jan S. is one of the most high-profile in recent years in the context of legal highs trafficking in Poland. The trial concerned mass sales of substances of unknown composition, which were distributed mainly through internet shops.
