Parents' phone of Sebastian M. disrupted hearing in Piotrków Trybunalski
During cross-examination of an expert witness in the case of Sebastian M., sounds from the trial were played from the phone of the accused's parents. The prosecutor raised concerns about the recording of the hearing.
Incident in courtroom during Sebastian M. trial
According to o2.pl, during Tuesday's hearing before the District Court in Piotrków Trybunalski, an unexpected incident occurred — during the testimony of expert witness Michał Krzeminski, sounds clearly related to the course of the trial were heard from the phone of Sebastian M.'s parents.
Prosecutor Aleksander Duda reacted immediately, raising concerns with the court about whether the accused's family had observed the ban on recording. "Your Honour, the accused's family has no right to record the hearing," declared prosecutor Duda.
Sebastian M.'s father, mother and sister regularly sit in the courtroom as members of the public — which is legally permitted. However, recording the proceedings is prohibited by law. The court admonished the family, ordering them to remain calm and refrain from recording. Following the incident, the hearing resumed with the expert witness's testimony.
Sebastian M. faces charges over fatal motorway crash on A1
Sebastian M., born in 1991, is before the court in connection with a motorway crash on the A1 in September 2023. From the evidence gathered by the prosecution, it emerges that he was driving his BMW at a speed exceeding 320 km/h and collided with a Kia passenger vehicle. As a result of a fire that broke out following the collision, a three-member family died — a father, mother and a child not yet five years old. The man faces up to 8 years in prison.
The case attracted nationwide attention not only because of the tragic circumstances of the crash, but also because of the accused's behaviour after the incident. Shortly after the collision, Sebastian M. drove to Germany, from where he travelled overland to Turkey, and from there flew to Dubai. His return to Poland required a complicated extradition procedure and involvement of Polish diplomatic services. He returned to the country in May 2025.
The trial before the District Court in Piotrków Trybunalski began in September 2025. According to other media reports, the defence has over 200 questions for expert witness Krzeminski's opinion, which suggests that the proceedings may be prolonged further.
