The court in Kościan has ordered the remand in custody of a 29-year-old resident of Śmigł. The man is accused of attempted murder. The decision covers a period of three months.
The incident occurred on 1 July, approximately half an hour before 19:00, on Północna Street. Officers received information about an ongoing disturbance. The perpetrator, a 29-year-old resident of Śmigł, struck a 30-year-old acquaintance from the same town with a knife in the back, then fled the scene.
Officers quickly traced the assailant's hideout. He was found in a flat which he had locked from the inside. Police had to force entry. The man resisted – he was holding a blade and a telescopic baton in his hands. Officers used a stun gun to subdue him.
The injured man was transported to a medical facility, where he underwent surgery. His condition is currently stable and there is no danger to his life.
The suspect has not admitted to attempted murder. He has also been charged with making criminal threats against another person. He had previously been convicted, including for robbery and threats. He will now face justice as a repeat offender.
He faces a sentence of not less than ten years' imprisonment or life imprisonment. The final verdict is for the court to decide.
