At the request of investigators, a court in Rzeszów ordered three months' remand in custody for an eighteen-year-old woman from the Czech Republic. She is suspected of defrauding money and valuable jewellery from a resident of Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The decision and details of the case were published by Policja.pl.
A few days ago, the elderly woman received a phone call after midnight. The fraudster on the other end of the line pretended to be a family member and asked about valuables. He then claimed that her grandson was in serious trouble and could face imprisonment. Shortly afterwards, a stranger appeared at the door of the 83-year-old. She entered, grabbed a wallet containing six hundred dollars and gold rings, then quickly left.
Law enforcement officers from the Rzeszów police command tracked down the suspect swiftly. They caught her in a hotel in Tarnów. Police found cash on the girl and in her room – over one thousand two hundred zloty – as well as four gold rings and a cosmetics bag matching the description provided by the victim.
Officers presented the recovered items to the pensioner, who unequivocally identified them as hers. The case file was transferred to the prosecutor's office, which requested remand in custody. The court granted the request.
Police are currently investigating whether the eighteen-year-old may be connected to additional, similar fraud cases.
