Three gold bars hidden under clothing – Ukrainian woman detained at border in Krościenko
A 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen attempted to bring three kilogramme gold bars worth 1.5 million zloty into Poland hidden under her clothes. Officials of the Tax Authority detected the smuggling at the crossing in Krościenko.
Smuggling of gold worth 1.5 million zloty thwarted at Krościenko crossing
Officials of the Tax and Customs Service from the Subcarpathian Tax and Customs Office in Przemyśl detained a 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen who had concealed three kilogramme gold bars in pouches hidden under her clothes. According to Google News PL, the value of the seized precious metal was estimated at approximately 1.5 million zloty.
The incident occurred at the border crossing in Krościenko in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship. The woman was travelling by car and reported for clearance with the intention of entering Polish territory.
During inspection using a body scanner, the device precisely indicated the locations where the goods were hidden. "Officials detected that the woman had hidden goods on her person," said the spokesperson for the National Tax Authority, senior aspirant Justyna Pasieczyńska.
The gold was secured for the purposes of further proceedings. Officials also seized 23,400 euro as payment towards a fine threatened against the detainee.
The Tax Authority reminds that persons crossing the European Union border are obliged to declare to customs authorities the transport of funds valued at 10,000 euro or more. The regulation covers not only cash, but also cheques, promissory notes, money transfers and gold in the form of bars.
