Custody for Ukrainian following fatal attack on clergy in Jarosławiu
According to radiomaryja.pl, a court has approved three months' custody for Ihor M., a Ukrainian citizen suspected of carrying out an attack at the Benedictine convent in Jarosławiu. The man has been charged with murder, attempted murder and causing serious bodily harm.
Five people were injured as a result of the attack: three clergy and two civilian persons. One of the attacked priests died.
Bożena Harasz-Wołoszyn of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Przemyśl informed journalists that experts will issue a further opinion regarding Ihor M.'s mental capacity. The man is in medical care; psychiatrists confirmed severe psychotic symptoms in him.
— These circumstances do not determine findings concerning his mental capacity at the time of the alleged offence. These will be established at the final stage of the proceedings — Harasz-Wołoszyn explained.
The alleged acts expose Ihor M. to the threat of a life sentence. Mourning will be observed in Jarosławiu until Sunday; in the evening a March of Silence will proceed through the city streets.
