A 43-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained by police after attempting to enter the International Defence Industry Fair in Kielce with several rounds of ammunition in his possession, according to wiadomosci.wp.pl. At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was attending the event.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, during one of Poland's largest defence industry events. Security staff stopped the man at the entrance gate, suspecting he might be carrying dangerous items. Police were called to the scene.
– Officers established that a 43-year-old Ukrainian citizen attempted to enter the fair grounds, who had several rounds of ammunition in his possession – said Cdr Damian Janus from the Press Office of the Regional Police Headquarters in Kielce in an interview with Polsat News.
According to RMF FM, the detainee crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border the day before the incident. He came to Kielce as a driver for two Ukrainian businessmen, whose company was participating in the fair as an exhibitor. Officers searched the vehicle in which all three arrived – no weapons or other dangerous items were found in it.
The Border Guard was informed about the matter. According to Polsat News, further procedural actions in the prosecutor's office were to take place on Wednesday afternoon. The detainee was to be charged with illegal possession of ammunition.
