Warsaw man arrested at Constitutional Tribunal; police seek remand in custody
Piotr W. arrested on Friday near the Constitutional Tribunal following an assault on a police officer. The prosecution will seek his remand in custody.

Arrest and transfer to the prosecution office
Piotr W., arrested on Friday (16 October) near the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, was to be transferred to the District Prosecution Office Warsaw-Śródmieście — according to a statement from the spokesman of the Regional Prosecution Office in Warsaw, prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba. Police have requested an interview with the detained man and the application of remand in custody.
The arrest took place on Marszałkowska Street during a gathering outside the Constitutional Tribunal. According to dorzeczy.pl, the man attacked a police officer. Both the police officer and the detained man were taken to hospitals.
Charges brought
The detained man's defence lawyer, Bartosz Malewski, stated that Piotr W. has been charged with coercing officers to refrain from performing their official duties and violating the bodily integrity of a police officer with risk of loss of life or serious bodily harm. The man denied his guilt and refused to provide explanations.
Police version and evidence
The Warsaw Metropolitan Police Command released footage from an officer's body camera. In the video, the man is seen failing to respond to a request to show identification, pushing back against officers and fleeing, after which he is subdued in the entrance hall of a building on Marszałkowska Street. A knife was found on the detained man.
Conflicting accounts
In a statement read by his defence lawyers, Piotr W. claimed that he has a head wound and is experiencing severe pain, and that he was denied contact with his wife and appointed lawyers. Police presented a different account — stating that the man initially refused legal assistance and was unwilling to provide his personal details. The Warsaw Metropolitan Police Command also disputed reports of a cut head wound.
