The Regional Court in the capital has rejected a request to issue a European arrest warrant for the former head of the justice ministry, according to judge Anna Ptaszek, a spokesperson for the institution. The decision was made on Monday and is not subject to appeal.
In mid-July, the higher-instance court transferred the files to the Warsaw Regional Court, which made it possible to continue proceedings. The former minister remains subject to a temporary arrest decision, which the Warsaw court upheld in early July.
The institution also did not grant a request to issue an arrest warrant in the event of the politician's stay in the territory of the United Kingdom. As the spokesperson explained, in both cases there was a lack of evidence that Ziobro was staying or intended to enter the area of the Union or the British Isles.
Let us recall: in February, following the district court's decision on arrest, a red notice was issued for the former minister. At that time he was in Hungary, where he received protection from the authorities of Viktor Orbán. In May, following Fidesz's electoral defeat, the politician announced that he was in the USA.
The European Arrest Warrant mechanism is used for the rapid transfer of suspects between member countries of the union.
